Description

Winter mornings don't have to start in the dark. The Day-Light Sky is our smallest full-size light therapy lamp, and it still gives you the full 10,000 lux session at a comfortable 12 inches, while you drink your coffee or clear your inbox, then drops to a 5,000 lux task light for the rest of the day. The 13.5" x 10" head comes in white or blue, so it can stay out on the desk between sessions instead of going back in a closet. One screw to set up, then adjust the height, tilt it toward you, and sit about 12 inches back. That's the whole routine.

How to Use - Three Easy Steps

1. Set Up Your Lamp
Adjust the height so your eyes line up with the center of the light, tilt the head about 15 degrees, and sit about 12 inches away.

2. Start Your Morning Session
Switch to the high setting for 10,000 lux and use it for 20 to 30 minutes soon after waking, while you read, eat, or check email. Keep your eyes open without looking directly at the light.

3. A Brighter Routine That Lasts All Winter
Switch to the low setting and keep the Sky on as your desk or reading light. Same spot, same time each morning is the easiest way to make the session a habit through the darker months.

How it Works - What Studies Say

Bright Light, Early in the Day
Morning light is one of the main cues the body's daily rhythm runs on. When daylight is short, or most of the day happens indoors, a bright session soon after waking is a simple way to put that cue back into the routine.

Tested at a Comfortable Distance
Many lamps advertised as 10,000 lux only reach that level a few inches from your face. When Yale's light therapy program tested the Day-Light Sky, it measured 11,000 lux at 12 inches, close enough to deliver full-strength light and far enough to read or eat in comfort.

Big difference in my energy and mental health!

I've tried smaller lights in the past that didn't quite do the job. But I decided to invest in this Carex after seeing such good reviews and got started with the light therapy earlier than I have in the past. It's been making a HUGE difference for my mental health and over all energy levels. I had already been feeling exhausted and sad during the gray days even with my my sunrise alarm and bedside lamp. I work from home so I have this light at my desk that I work at every day and it's convenient to just turn it on on in the morning for a out 30mins. I then turn on the task light which is still very bright because I just like the extra light. It makes me feel more awake as these days get darker. This one is large and not the most aesthetically appealing but it's no big deal for me since I use it at my desk and am not trying to blend it into my home decor. Definitely recommend

Sturdy and well built

Sturdy, but light enough that I can easily move it to where I need it. I’ve only had it one week, but it seems to be lifting my mood already.

Feeling the light

This light is everything we were looking for. It's big enough to give the full spectrum needed to make a different in the winter. I really enjoy the blue color base.

Convenient and effective

Very handy size -- I have the lamp set up between my coffee grinder and espresso machine so I can get full light exposure first thing in the morning as recommended. My circadian rhythm is getting stronger ever day :-)

don't like it much prefer the elite.

I don't like this lamp. It looks much nicer in the photos but the base is all plastic (I thought it was metal). Also the light is harshly bright. I have another therapy light (Carex Day-Light Elite Light Therapy Lamp) and it is not bright like this. I find myself squinting at it. and the quality of the light is just harsher somehow even on the low setting it starts to give me a mild headache. I wish I hadn't gotten rid of the packaging so I could return it.

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear this lamp did not meet your expectations compared to the Day-Light Elite especially regarding the material brightness and light quality. We understand how important comfort and light quality are and your comments will be shared with our product team for review. For product returns and refunds please call our customer service team at 1-800-526-8051 or email customer.service@carex.com. Thank you.

Won't Turn On (troubleshooting)

Assembly was super easy but my lamp will not turn on. I have tried three different outlets unplugging and re-plugging each end (into the light and into the wall) each time. I only received this ten minutes ago and have contacted Carex privately about the issue. Hopefully they have a solution -- I really wanted to love this!

I no longer dread winter

This has been a life changer. Usually my mood and energy levels start going down with the decreasing daylight hours. I’ve notice an improvement almost immediately after starting light therapy with this lamp. I sleep better at night and have more energy and a better mood during the daytime. My only regret is not having purchased this years ago.

Extremely satisfied with benefits

I had originally purchased the Sky Light Therapy Lamp to help with some seasonal depression, as I've been having trouble with motivation to get out of the house during these last few cold winter months. As such, my energy levels in the morning are often very low and I felt very foggy for hours after waking up.

After using the lamp for 20-25 minutes every morning, I've noticed a distinct increase in my energy levels and alertness compared to not using the lamp. If i had to put a quantitative number to it, i'd say i went from 4-6 out of 10 in terms of energy to consistently at a 7 out of 10. Definitely worth it.

Needs a gradual light up

I like this lamp. Very well built and bright. I only wish it had a way to turn on gradually like natural sun rises instead of waking up to a blast of light.

Trouble Setting Up Have question

Am I supposed to purchase the lightbulbs separately? I assembled the lamp today exactly as instructed. There is no light coming out of the unit. I plugged it into a few different outlets -the outlets are not the issue. Please let me know if bulbs are meant to be included in the lamp or if I have to purchase separately.

I think it's been helping!

I haven't needed to nap as much as I have before I got this lamp and my mood has improved.

Review by very experienced light therapy user

I made my own light boxes many years ago, for home use. Eventually I got one of the Carex old-style Sky Light lamps for my office. Which used fluorescent tubes. I used that for many seasons. Eventually it seemed less bright, but also sometimes gave me "eyegraines." (Weird broken-glass effect from eye strain. Google it.)

So I ordered the new, LED version. The order was filled and shipped extremely fast.

It's a good product, I recommended it to my siblings. In my case I'm finding it too bright on the high setting, possibly with some eyegraine involvement. So I have been using it on the lower setting. Which works better than the low setting on the old model, which just turned one of the tubes off.

I never had the eyegraines in the many years I used the lamp in my office, so I assume it's at least partly due to aging, as I'm now 71. I think this lamp will work fine for most people.

Odd note: The lamps helped me get through many Michigan autumns and winters. But if I hadn't used them ... I might have moved to, say, Denver where I have two sisters. And which is incredibly sunny. So, mixed blessing, I guess.

Lamp works. Poor shipping.

Lamp works well. I plugged it into a timer to turn on automatically early every morning. Only complaint is about the shipping. The lamp was shipped without concern for damage. No outer box outside the lamp's original package, like Amazon. Fortunately it still worked.

Day Light Sky is very helpful

I skimp on a lot of my self care routine, but not my light therapy. This is a really bright light. I like that I can change the angle of it. There was a problem with mine and customer service fixed it right away.

Still loving this light after 2+ years

I live in the sun-deprived Northeast and I’ve been using this light daily for 2 1/2 years from late Nov thru late April for ~30 minutes every morning while I eat breakfast or read. It’s so well made as it’s still looks\works as well as the day it arrived & love that it’s very position adjustable. Because it folds down & is looks nice when not in use, I can keep it out on our dining table without it being in the way. (See photo) Definitely feel better using it daily. Recommend highly.

This has helped my mood especially in the winter. I have bought one for several people who suffer from anxiety and depression. I recommend it highly.

Worked so well...for 10 hours....

I set the light up and was a bit perplexed by the nonsensical dos/don'ts sheet, but I know how to use a light. The don't describe why to do something one way--kind of important information...but whatever...

After my first two days using it in my office and liking it the bulbs flickered and burned out during a meeting and I got made fun of by all my coworkers on the Zoom call. I looked up replacements bulbs but why bother? DO NOT BUY. Only one of the 4 bulbs works.

Amazing service

I bought this lamp 8 years ago, due to moving a lot, it spent the last 5 years in a box. I took it out to use it again but was missing the cord. I contacted the company and at no charge to me, they sent me a new cord and I got it in 2 days. I needed the lamp due to SAD, but I wasn’t able to find the cord anywhere else, and couldn’t really afford a new lamp but this company came to my rescue and went above and beyond to help me when I needed it most, even after after owning it for 8 years.

Addendum to first review

Carex is sending us a new light at no charge after they saw our problem.
We are very impressed with this company.

Is the Sky's Smaller Light Head Still Full Strength?

Yes. The head is smaller than the Classic Plus, but the output isn't: you get 10,000 lux at 12 inches, and Yale's light therapy program confirmed it at that distance. You sit at the same comfortable reading distance and get the same session.

How Does the Day-Light Sky Compare With the Classic Plus?

Both deliver 10,000 lux of UV-free light with two settings and a five-year warranty. Choose the Sky for its smaller, contemporary design and color choice, or the Classic Plus for its larger 15.75" x 13" light surface and research track record. Both are FSA/HSA eligible.

What If the Day-Light Sky Isn't Right for Me?

Try it for 60 days. If it isn't right, send it back under our 60-day return policy. The Sky is also backed by a five-year warranty, so you can buy it with confidence.

What Is a Light Therapy Lamp?

A light therapy lamp gives you bright, UV-free light indoors when natural daylight is limited. Most people use one for a short session each morning, and the Day-Light Sky also works as an everyday desk or reading light.

How Do You Use a Light Therapy Lamp?

Sit about 12 inches from the lamp for 20 to 30 minutes soon after waking, with your eyes near the center of the light and the head tilted about 15 degrees. Keep your eyes open without looking directly at the light.

What Lux Level Should a Light Therapy Lamp Be?

Look for 10,000 lux at a realistic sitting distance, not just a few inches away. The Day-Light Sky delivers 10,000 lux at 12 inches and blocks 100% of UV light.
